#WipMadness-May Check-In Three

Yep. It is another Monday and another check-in. Hope you are all making progress and like many of us seem to be doing...plugging along one word, one book, one blog post at a time. We are well into Spring and many are turning over the soil and putting in those plants as part of the May Long Weekend. May there be time this week for you to til your soul, water it and soak in some sun. Breathe in some spring as you step into the week to accomplish what you set out to do!

Last week I got my article back and it needed some edits. I did not get them done. I did however get a rewrite in and a better sense of what is needed to make it work. I also touched base with a physical education teacher at Lethbridge College. We are developing a resource that using storytelling to help develop physical literacy. Very excited about that. Carrying on with #middlegrademay and in that vein I am working on my middle novel this week. You hear me novel? I am coming for you, oh yes I am.

And...

I was going to leave you with a quote from one of my favorite authors, Jane Yolen. As I read I kept thinking oh, this is good, this is good, oh, maybe I should use this. The end result was me deciding to link to the whole thing, cause it is just that good. If you have the time, do read it....

So, how are you guys doing?

  1. I love the physical literacy project you are working on! Very cool!

I finished my re-write and the ms is now in the hands of my agent and I am biting my nails once again. In the meantime, I have a dissertation to edit for a client, a website to build, an etsy store to build, and a new WIP to continue. I guess I have enough on my plate for now. Oh, yeah...and Wednesday is the last day of school for my kids!

    Wheeeee!

  2. I'd gotten some notes and my ms back from my agent a week ago. Eh, not so good. It boils down to another rewrite. Whoever says writing picture books are easy, I beg to differ. We had a phone con on Wed and decided to revisit to the original idea again. Maybe it took all the exploration and a trizillion versions to finally realize what a gem I had in the first place.

I love the sound of your lit project. How wonderful! And go get your middle grade ms. Tackle that baby!!

Have a good week everyone. :)

    2. Picture books are tremendously hard to write, Candi! Poetry...absolute poetry.

  3. Wow, this month is flying by, isn't it?

I dusted off an old WIP and jotted down some notes for it over the weekend. I plan to work on it this month and over the summer.

  4. Physical literacy - love the sound of that!

I'm plugging away. I cut over 10k from my wip last week, so that was a pretty huge accomplishment. I'm still feeling in that cutting mood, so I'm going back in to see if I can use this mood to my advantage and really trim the fat. (it started at over 100k, so it has A LOT of fat. LOL)

  5. Ooh, physical literacy! I'm with Denise. Love the sound of this!

Well, found out publisher is probably going to have another illustrator for my book. Husband told me that he agrees with publisher's comments that right now it's too chick-lity and doesn't reflect the overall theme of my story. Publisher also had a really valid point that I'd have to follow that cover with my sequel which is hard. So back to the drawing board...

Scoring is almost over! Yay! Now need to work on a blog post for YABC and help son with his lines for his play next week. Oh, and ES coming over tomorrow for homeschooling goals. There's only 3 more weeks! Yay! Double yay as this chica is BURNED OUT.

Hope to hit my project tomorrow and on Thursday.

  6. I'm plugging away. Got sidetracked this week because I got sick for a few days. Not able to think much. But I'm good now. Back at it. It's all I can do.

  7. I haven't gotten much writing in. But I did get to meet Angelina C Hansen IRL last week! She's only 4 hours away from me now! I've also picked up a copy of Lamott's Bird by Bird (on life and writing) and it is inspiring me to "write shitty first drafts." In my case, shitty third drafts. Life (and writing) is about the mess. I'm excited to dive back into my mess this week! Thanks for hosting, Deb!

  8. I'm taking it easy this month and planning ahead of schedule for July's Camp NaNo while doing edits on current projects. I'm reading books two and three for #middlegrademay and enjoying offline time for the first time in a long while. The Keysmashing Tots are growing so fast and I'm glad that I get to see that (almost) everyday.

    Have a great week, everyone!

    Cheers,

    Tonette

  9. Encouraged by all the progress, Wipsters! Not that I have any of my own to share, though I did work on the WIP this week for a bit. I keep telling myself that I'm going to start writing in earnest again soon, but in the back of my mind, I keep telling myself that it will be winter before that happens. So I'm giving myself permission to ease off and work on the emotional healing without feeling like I'm not a writer.

It was encouraging to spend time with Lora. She's a beautiful human being.

Have fun with the new project (you'll have to explain more about that when you get the chance). ^_^

    Carry on my writer friends!

  10. I haven't done any serious writing for several days... since last Thursday. I'm blaming it on the Victoria Day holiday weekend and its emphasis on approaching summer. Visiting the nursery (spending way too much money on plants), gardening, organizing the back deck, visiting with out-of-town family -- it totally preoccupied me. I even posted a re-run item from the archives on my blog today. And I'm okay with it all. Guilt kills the joy that Jane Yolen advocates. (I love her book, TAKE JOY.)

So I'm admitting to being a slacker this past week, but I'll be back on track tomorrow. I've given myself permission to chalk up the week as a much-needed break.
