MMGM and a #MiddleGradeMay Check-In

Hello all! I hope you past week has been wonderful especially with the celebration of Children's Book Week.  I was part of the giveaway hop and using a super technical method:

WRITE names down and number 1-22/  go to random org

Sending out giveaway CONGRATS to:

And here we are with another Monday of Middle Grade Marvelousness and another #MiddleGradeMay check-in for those you taking part. Let me know what you have read in the comments and if you have a post you've put up please leave a link.

Did not get as much read as I had hoped but did get some done, including the absolutely fun read for boys that I know a girl or two I would hand this over to. Fun, funny, adventurous story with a treasure hunt for old pirate booty, mysterious possible government agent types and trying to stay one step ahead of the so called popular "cool" kids. I laughed, I held my breath and I nodded my head. This book wonderfully captured the tone and voice needed to give it that all so important real feel. Speaking of that real feel, one of the students I am working with right now is just like Fish. She is a fountain of interesting information. And speaking of the mention of girls I would give this book to this student is one of them! Here's the book:

Fish Finelli: Seagulls Don't Eat Pickles by E.S. Farber and illustrated by Jason Beene.

When bully Bryce Billings bets Fish Finelli that he can't find Captain Kidd's legendary long-lost treasure, Fish and his friends embark on a quest to find real-life pirate treasure. Between sneaking into the library to track down Captain Kidd's map, stowing away on a boat, and trespassing on an island, Fish and his friends have their work cut out for them. But will Fish actually be able to find Captain Kidd's booty and win the bet? (from Goodreads).

Hope you find the time to check this one out.

Although I did not get in as much reading time as I hoped I am happy there is still lots of may to keep making a dent in my pile. Pulled a handful I really really hope to get to over the next few days.

How about all of you? How are you doin'?

For those of you just tuning in, there is still time to hop on board and join us by reading at least one middle grade book this month. Here be the details and you can always check out even more MMGM goings on here at Shannon Messenger's, the same Shannon who came up with the idea of Marvelous Middle Grade Monday.

Ta for now and hope you enjoy your week!

  1. This sounds like a fun read. I just finished Abandon by Elana Johnson for her interview next month. It's YA and so good.

  5. Hi! I've been wanting to join in on this- what fun! I've been having a hard time understanding how to join... I just leave a comment, right?
I re-read (and throughly enjoyed) Fablehaven By Brandon Mull. I read the first three books way back when they first came out, but now I'm reading them again in addition to books 4 and 5. Such adventure and creative fantasy! I would love to put in the running for the $25 gift certificate. Thanks! (And I'll check back on your response to make sure I'm doing this right...?)

    1. Hey Joni. Yeah, I don't think I have explained this well at all. I made a last minute decision to do this and I think it's showing.

I have a linky you can sign up with, but I realize the simplicity of people being able to just jump in with a comment is much, much better. SO-yes you are in and depending on how many books you read you are automatically entered for more prizes if you don't win that. (will explain it better in a new post which I clearly need to get up!)

Welcome aboard #MiddleGradeMay and yes yes on the Fablehaven books!

  7. You're more than making a dent in your pile even if you didn't get as much time to read as you'd hoped. I've had some books on my to-read list for a VERY long time, but I know I'll get to them...eventually. :-)

  8. Yay! Thanks for the giveaway! I have to think about what book I want. I'll be back at you with that :).

I've been back on an MG kick this month. I've posted about Plastic Polly and Rump so far. I'm finishing up The Hero's Guide to Storming the Castle right now, and I'm also hoping to have something on When the Butterflies Came before the end of the month.

  9. Congrats to Michelle.

Here's what I read this week for #MiddleGradeMay:

    -Shakespeare's Scribe (mentioned today: http://mybrainonbooks.blogspot.com/2013/05/aye-methinks-its-yorkshire-post.html)

-A Tangle of Knots by Lisa Graff

-In Search of Goliathus Hercules by Jennifer Angus (blog hop coming June 2)

So I believe that brings me up to 9 books total. And the month isn't over!

  10. Fish Finelli sounds so adorable and the line "seagulls don't eat pickles" just cracked me up. :)
I wrote a post about all the MG I've read so far. 5 total I believe.

  11. This past week I read The Aviary by Kathleen O'Dell. It was a great book full of magic and mysterious family secrets. It'll definitely go up on the blog soon. :)
I've lost track of how many I've read. Four or five maybe?

  12. Reading THEODORE BOONE by John Grisham and THE PECULIAR by Stefan Bachmann. I'll have a post up on my thoughts for each at the blog. I'm thinking of SISTERS GRIMM and SEPTIMUS HEAP for next week. My goal was for three books this month, so I'll keep chugging along to see how many I get through. Of course, I decided to tackle longer books, right? Ever the masochist. haha

I like seeing what everyone's reading. That's how I got into THE PECULIAR.

Looking forward to adding to my TBR list. :)

    Cheers,

    Tonette
