#Wipmadness-Check In February 6, 2012

It's time for our first check in of the month! Thought I would start us off with a quote. Found it yesterday, it gave me a wow moment.

Jump, and you will find out how to unfold your wings as you fall-Ray Bradbury

Hope your #wipmadness is moving along and you feel as though you've got the upper hand. Had some pretty crazy goals (still do) set for this month and now that I've spent some time with them, realize that I am in need of revising them. To that end I won't be taking part in the PB MARATHON. The one where you write a picture book everyday. What was I thinking? Not sure. On the other hand I have a new PB to work on for 12 X 12. Other #wipmadness success was working on my synopsis for HAPPY MEDIUM and tweaking the opening 5 pages so I can get it sent out to for the Western Washington Annual SCBWI Conference.

Still working on the editor in my head. Don't need her quite yet, so she really needs to back off!

Also got going on taking advantage of small nuggets of time Lora Rivera even came up with a twitter tag for it. #5minblitz. Got two good sessions in on that. Helps quiet you know who.

This week is about:
-working on second draft of the PB mentioned above and getting it to my crit buddies
-finishing synopsis and first 5 for HM
-starting writing course and keeping up

How about all of you? How did it go? Do you have a particular focus between now and next Monday?

Here is to a week of jumping and spreading those wings!

  1. Egads! You just reminded me that I have to write a synopsis for this WIP! (sigh). I made some progress last week and after a very busy weekend (sadly with no #wipmadness), I'm ready to leap back into it. This week will see the final hurrah. I'm determined!

I'll have to check out Lora's #5minblitz...Happy Madness, people!

  2. I've just gotten some feedback on one of my works in progress, so that has ignited my enthusiasm to work on it again. I will be doing that this week (my agent also has this book, so I'm awaiting feedback from her) and I'll be working more on prepping for some upcoming workshops.

I also need to look back at my proposal and map out what I plan to do for March, but...I'm having some trouble working up the nerve to go back to that one. Maybe next week...

    1. Yes on the feedback on you wii! It's a great place to be...excited for the project. Good luck with the other and yep on maybe next week...have one book I keep wanting to go back to, then something stops me--now, if I could figure out the something?

Happy writing and revising this week!

  3. Wellll.... I made all but one of my #5minblitz appointments. I really think they're moving my brain in the right direction. I didn't, however, mark off the 8K word goal on my MS. Only 7K.

This week, the goal is to A. blitz every day. and B. hit 10K. I might be shooting too high for where my creativity level is right now, but I'd rather high than too low.

Luck to all of you! And Deb, it's fun blitzing with you :)

    1. Way to go on the blitz appointments! Brain moving in right direction is a good thing. I think I might start using the blitz to start getting back into writing poems or banging out the framework of a short story...or something to keep my brain fired up and the fingers movin.

Yes on the the aim high. I can't quite remember the quote but something about shoot for the stars and you just might land on the moon!

      Fun blitzing with you too!

  4. I broke 31k this a.m. so that's good. And I did a mini-revision on another manuscript.

But the most exciting news is I'm finally transforming the extra room into my writing space! Bought trim color yesterday and got about half of it painted. Once the painting's done, I move in the beautiful desk I inherited from my grandmother and my favorite bookshelf. My kidlit books will all be in ONE place instead of spread out all over everywhere! Super happy excited about this. I'll post pics on my blog when it's all done.

  5. I will have to try this #5minblitz thing. I tend to find it harder to work if I feel I have the pressure of time, but 5 minutes? That's nothing. I can fit in 5 minutes anywhere.

My main focus this month will be finishing the outline crafting / brainstorming for STAR KIN. If possible, I'd like to start writing it, but I want to have a solid outline before I continue any more. It's all coming together well, but it has come together in fragments and I want to create a cohesive outline.

I'd also like to research more agents and prep some query letters for SIGN OF THE STAR, even if I'm not ready to send them. At least that way the work is mostly done.

And at least two blog posts! I still have notes from SiWC to post, for startes.

    1. So true about five minutes and being able to fit them in everywhere. I used to do that all the time--somewhere along the line though I stopped.

All best with your projects and I agree on getting the queries ready to go!!

  6. This past week I looked at what it's going to take to have this draft ready for all you lovely betas by the end of the month--only three pages a day! That really took the pressure off. Plus the fact that I'm going to be stuck in the passenger seat this month for over 24 hours (Internet free. ^_^) means I'll have lots of time to make it sparkle. I hope. I went back and read everyone's goals for the month and was hugely encouraged. Keep it up, gang! Next month will bring some extra special madness!

    1. Time and sparkle is good! Enjoy the ride and write, writer, sparkle, write....!

  7. I'm pretty pleased with how the month is going so far! I think I've worked every day, or at least near enough that I can't remember any days that I didn't work. I've got 4000 words on my zero draft. Some of them are crossed out, meaning they will probably be cut, but I still wrote them so they still count. (That's one way to boost word-counts!) I haven't started my outline at all yet, because I'm kind of daunted by the task, but I WILL do it!

I love seeing how much progress everyone has made! Go team wipmadness!

  8. I had a 2K weekend and another good day today, which puts my WIP at 92 pages. Since my goal is to hit 100 pages by the end of the month, I'm feeling pretty good. Still need to go back and rewrite my synopsis though.
