#wipmadness October Check-In Week Two!

First up!

Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians! Hope you are all turkey filled or on your way to being so.

Second up!

This turkey filled writer peep is looking forward to another week of #wipmadness. What about all of you? Did it go well? Mine went pretty well. Got that work for hire project in the mail, another query sent out, some reading for #cybils done...oh! and a picture book popped into my head so I wrote it down fast. Also started reading Denise's book,  Writing with a Heavy Heart. It's good. Yep, it is.  Goals this week are to carry on with:

-writing each day
-finish reading, do some of Writing With a Heavy Heart exercises
-explore more work for hire possibilities
-#cybils...gathering more of the nominees, btw if you haven't yet do check it out and make your noms!

Third up!

Those of you who need to send your inner editor on a vaca here:

If that doesn't work. Use this:

And fourth...hope all you writer friends at SIWC have a fantabulous time and our very own Heather is going to be there signing her book. Maybe you could find some time to swing by her table and say hi!

Finally is have a great week and looking forward to seeing what you are all up to!

  1. Happy Thanksgiving, Canadian writer peeps!

I have finished the edits on my soon-to-be-queried WIP and am in the process of one final read-thru. Only half a book to go!

  2. Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

My last week was amazing. If you haven't seen my news, please stop by my blog: www.jayerobinbrown.blogspot.com

My WIP has been scrapped, I've replotted my beat sheet, and hope to dive back into chapter 1 tonight. Love my characters but the story wasn't working. I was bored writing it. Never a good sign. Thank goodness for the brainstorming help of CP's!!

    Happy writing week all.

  3. Did I mention I started a new part-time job and am learning the ropes of a business I knew nothing about in the midst of all the exploring of this glorious cowboy country? And yes, I'm finally feeling invigorated with my writing again, despite the joy-killing agony of the query process. I'm still fighting exhaustion, but have had some good revision sessions lately. My #wipmadness is truly madness. Thanks for all your support!

Thanks for the encouragement, Deb, and best wishes with all your reading and writing endeavors this week. ^_^

    1. So glad your revision is going along well.

As you know, I despise querying.

Congrats on the job! I started mine last week too, and I've found it helps me focus to divide up my time clearly between work, writing, and fooling around. ;-)

    2. Heh, I need a surviving the rejection post. I think even when we think it isn't getting us, it can. So hope we are able to cheer you on, keep you on that writing track and give a good butt kicking to anything that gets in your way. Er...or maybe help you get all zen. Thanks on the writing and reading!

  4. Happy Thanksgiving, all you Canucks!

Hurray for JRO! and Congrats Angelina and Jennifer on the writing inspiration and progress!

Last week brought some good work for me, in spite of my busy day job. I'm now reworking the final two chapters of the WIP and will be ready to run through a final revision on my upcoming retreat. Can't wait!

So, Deb, I think I'll have a fair bit of your first answer to the the internal editor...but I'm bringing the Duct Tape along for good measure!

    go, go GO, Wipsters!

  5. Yes, happy Thanksgiving, Canadians!

And congrats to all on the progress, oh, and book deals and such. LOL

Last week turned into a crazy week for me, wherein I got so much feedback (*coughs* rejection *coughs*) on my ms that I could line them up and plan out another revision that's going to SELL THIS THING. It sounds like there was some on-the-fencing in the feedback so I know it's really close, and I haven't heard back from the R&R agent yet, who hadn't mentioned this particular problem, but now that I see it, I feel like I have to attack it.

Which sucks only because I am SO CLOSE to done with my WIP and I really wanted to push through and finish the draft. It'll be there when I come back though. Sometimes a little manuscript-jumping is in order.

Hoping for a great week of #wipmadness for all!

    1. Oh boy yes...you sound very close with this one! And yep, the other will be there waiting for you. Go go with that #wipmadness!

    2. Yay for constructive criticism! I'm glad you were able to take that and run with it. Do what you feel needs to be done...although it would be SO HARD to drop the wip for a little bit, it will be there when you come back. You've got this, Kip! :)

  6. Had a great Thanksgiving yesterday, now back to #wipmadness!

4th drafts revisions on Otherselves went surprisingly fast last week. Goals this week: work on query/blurb (my bane) and smooth out transitions between Leah and Holly's chapters.

  7. Happy Thanksgiving! Somebody remind me of my turkey-filled bliss when I get jealous of Americans in November...

Writing has taken a bit of a backseat for me in the last week. We got this sudden burst of warm weather. Who knows how long it will last, but I have one outside project I decided to get done before winter. So most of my time is going to that. Next week I should be back on track, but I admit, I think the break is doing my brain some good.

    1. Sometimes that's just what you need...and outside? That is always good for you! :) (Oh, and I'll be sure to remind you of today when I'm in a turkey coma!) :)

    2. I'm with you on getting out in the glorious weather to get some outside projects done. I'm hoping to get a bit of writing done this week, but first up in cleaning out the gardens. :)

  8. I'm excited to be part of Angela James' self-editing on-line class this month. I hope to do her assignment with my revision. *This is like the 3rd round on this revision!

I'm also checking out the YA fantasy/Sci-fi nominations for the Cybils. **I admit, I broke down and downloaded one of the titles and read most of it yesterday!

Hope to write every day this week.

Also need to start figuring out how to do a Skype classroom visit. I have one on the 29th of this month with a private HS in LA. Very excited!

    2. Have fun with your class. I've heard really great things about Before You Hit Send, and Angela James is very nice. (My adult fantasy novel Gate to Kandrith is published by Carina Press.)

  9. Happy Thanksgiving! It's one of those gorgeous, sunshine-perfect days that begs me to abandon my keyboard and go work in the garden. There's only so long I can resist the temptation so I'm splitting the day up -- morning inside, afternoon outside.

I have a book to read for review purposes, a synopsis to work on, and a ms that needs more revision. I'm hoping to make great headway on all three this week.

Congratulations once again to Jaye!!! Awesome news! Her story offers encouragement that the persistence eventually pays off.

    1. Outside is always a good idea! I'm glad you're working it in...you'd probably regret the chance in a week or two... :) Lot's to do! You can do it!

  10. My writing completely derailed last week. I'm definitely frustrated by it, but there's not much I could have done. The stomach bug attacked the family (although me and my son managed to escape so far, my hubby and our two daughters were all a mess in turns - not fun). On top of that, I decided to start a Pampered Chef business (timing was not so great...)which I have to figure out how to fit into my schedule and still have time for writing. I wrote probably a couple hundred words total. :( But, that was more than I had last week, so progress, right? :) I think I have three scenes to write before the wip (first draft) is done. I'd like that to happen this week... I have my first show, I have to pack, and we are leaving on Thursday for vacation... It *could* happen... *sigh*

  11. My comment last week never appeared, but am still knee deep in fascinating research. I don't want to make the mistake of starting before I have a good grip on the time and place of all the action and, since it involves a foreign culture, the details matter. So! Onward with an accordion folder. =)

    1. Hey...sorry about that, not sure what happened to that comment! Love doing the research. I know what you mean on starting too early. I've done that with a couple of books and find it hard to back track. Happy researching and getting your wip ready for writing!

  12. Baaaaaaaahahahaaa at the duct tape. Don't tempt me. :)

I've been working on revisions, consulting my beta readers. I'm making the necessary changes, slowly but surely. It's coming along and I feel pretty good about it.

That's about it! I had a lovely Turkey Day Dinner myself yesterday. Slept in and everything. Now I'm just trying to wake up enough to get back to work. :)

    1. LOL...yeah, eh? It is tempting.

Glad you had a lovely turkey...yesterday we left over-ed it. Oh my yummy!

Way to go on those revisions. Slowly but surely is a good good way to go....so keep it up I say and ya know where to get the duct tape if required!

  13. Happy Thanksgiving! Now I've got a craving for turkey with stuffing and gravy.

I'm still revising like crazy. So looking forward to turning this thing in on Nov. 5th. While everyone else will be madly NaNoWriMo-ing it, I'll finally take a little break. Till then it's pedal to the metal.

  14. Didn't get a lot of words done this past week. I'm dabbling with two new wips, but at least now I know which one is calling the loudest, and I'm excited about getting deeper into it.

Yard work and the day job will be claiming much of my time this week, but I plan to get at least a little writing and reading done, too.

I'll definitely stop by to meet Heather at SIWC! Can't wait--it's going to be a great conference!
