#Wipmadness October Check-In Four

Greetings all #wipmadness peeps, new and old! It has indeed been a busy week of schooling for me. But, midst it all a possible NANO novel came to mine. Granted it is another idea and one entirely different from the other one I've written a synopsis for. This one is middle contemporary and is about coping with grief. I wrote about 500 random-ish words from the pov of a possible almost thirteen year old character. A working title is LITTLE GIRL BLUE. It's still tumbling about my head, so we shall see where it goes this week. Speaking of this week, it's still all about the school and getting it done, with bits of time captured here and there for writing. That writing to include prepping a picture book for next round of crits for my picture book group and getting crits done for members of that group. And-thinking more on LITTLE GIRL BLUE.

Now.

Way more that enough from me.

I'm looking forward to seeing where you all are with #wipmadness and reaching/adjusting/moving your goals from last week. And really looking forward to hearing how SIWC went for all you writing roaring twenty-ers!

Let's rock and write this week and with that in mind, I leave you with this:

May your imagination soar to the top of a mountain, set sail across the ocean blue, traverse the frozen north or swing through the rainforest. May it take you to just where you need to be with no limits, no boundries. May it let you soar and do what imagination does. If you need to take your inner editor with you for revisions. Just let her know to buckle up and enjoy the ride!

  1. Love the last thought. Amazed you're going to do NaNo with working. I should finish my revisions this week and then I'll tackle my query (yuck) again.

  2. I'm all for soaring!

I'm not officially doing NANO by my goals sort of line up with them. As you may remember I ditched 38k of a ms, to start again after replotting. Happy to say after a week, a 3 day weekend, and this early a.m., I'm back up to 11.3k. I'd like to get to 25k by November 1st. I have a work thing the first 4 days of November so writing won't happen, but then.....drum roll. I'd like to finish this first draft by December 1st. I'm guessing 60-70k so the word count will be decidedly NANO-ish - but I'm not signing up for the hoopla.

Other than that, I'm looking forward to hosting y'all next month and waiting on my first edit letter to arrive. No clue when that might happen.

    Happy writing all!

  3. Yay for new book ideas!

I spent the week scrolling through my soon-to-be-rewritten WIP, chopping out parts I knew I wouldn't need. It was a pain in the butt, but necessary, and now, about 100 pages lighter, I'm ready to start adding words back in!

  4. Awesome, Deb. I've had my next wip in mind and thought about jumping on it for NaNoWriMo, but right now I am trying to wrap up my current piece of magic and get it off to my agent.

I had a wonderful and restorative retreat this weekend. I did not get through as many chapters as I had intended, but sacrificing a few extra chapters of revision for a 2 1/2-hour bike ride through Callaway Gardens had it its own benefits. Anyway, I did manage to make it past the halfway mark, and these last chapters should be easier to revise, anyway, since they are the freshest.

With a little luck, I'll still have time to torture myself with NaNoWriMo!

    WIP it good, folks!

    1. I love the sound of that....restorative retreat. I agree on the chapter sacrifice. Fill that creative well with moments like that!

      LOL on NANO torture.

    2. Love Callaway Gardens! A friend of mine used to be a raptor trainer there... What a gorgeous place for a retreat! Glad it was productive, and you definitely deserved that bike ride.

  5. Great things happening in the #wipmadness world! Most of what I did this past week had to do with the agent hunt. Excited that my MG got through to the agent round of a contest this morning. Congrats to Kip and Pat, too! I'm trying to finish a beta read today, then I'm going to dig into the revision of a WIP I finished drafting last spring. Today is my first day to stay at home (pajama day) since I moved! I'm so grateful for all of you who help keep me focused. ^_^

  7. Whew! Still coming off the adrenaline from a great writing conference on the weekend. I'm feeling very inspired. I'd love to start Nano today, but I'm kind of a stickler with myself when it comes to rules. So I will sink my energy into my non-fiction project and try to get through a full pass of it this week.

Glad you're feeling inspired too, Deb! Thanks again for hosting this month.

    1. Oh man. That is the best kind of adrenaline! LOL on sticking to the rules...me too. Here is to some crazy good non-fiction energy to keep you until NANO starts.

  8. Last week was more crazy than usual with meetings regarding son's 504 plan. Those always take alot out of me.

This week though plan on writing 500 words a day, do more of my on-line self-editing assignments, and catch up on my reading. I have 3 book reviews that I need to get done by the end of this week!

Like I said, craziness is my middle name!

    1. Thinking we should just call you Kim "Craze" then, lol. Go go go on those 500 words a day. Wip them out!

  9. I seem to be in post-conference nirvana. My brain is wrapped in cotton and refusing to move back to reality, but it's always like this 'the morning after the weekend before'. I don't need too much imagination or soaring this week. No new words are going to happen because I have material to get ready for a couple submissions requested from the SiWC conference. No pressure, right?

    1. I know exactly what you mean on the after feeling of a conference. CONGRATS on the sub requests...yup, no pressure, lol!

  10. I'm currently working on revisions (one my YA novel that deals with grief), then I'm planning my next project while the other one goes on a much earned vacation. :D

    1. Nice! Yes...or projects need those vacations from us. And then...we get them back. Bwaaahahahaha!

  11. Love the check-in, ladies! We've all been so busy... It's really inspiring.

I'm getting a bit more settled in Florida, and a great conversation with my agent has inspired me to dive back into a YA Magical Realism I've been mentally playing with for awhile. It's got polar bears and zoos and ghosts and snow... I'm even thinking I'll join the NaNo train for the first time in my life. (Since I'm definitely the hare and not the tortoise, I don't want to stifle my creativity by making myself think I actually have to follow the rules. It may be fun to use the month as an inspirational place to keep track of myself, though.)

I'm looking forward to starting Twitter check-ins again, and hopefully the next few weeks will be productive for everyone. :)

    1. Well, rules are sometimes overrated, lol. Something I have to learn to do is stretch them and not keel over from a heart attack.

Your book sounds amazing. Hope it and us can keep you inspired!

  12. First, love the title!

Second, I finished [most of] my outline on Monday and started drafting yesterday. So excited for this book! Now to stick to my daily word count. ;)

    1. Thanks on the title! And way to go on your outline!! Awesome stuff. Hope the daily word count is moving along.

  13. SIWC was awesome! Back to reality meant back to the day job, though, so I haven't had much #wipmadness time. But my goal for the end of the month is to do some loose plotting for NaNo. :)

    1. Ooo, I like the sound of that, loose plotting. Welcome back from the conference and back to reality. And TGIF!
