Slowly but surely.
Pedal to the metal.
Book deals that happen when you keep on forging ahead even when the going gets tough.
However we need to do it, we will do it we will get there. That is evident from all the responses to last week's post. I'm pretty darn glad we are taking this journey together and mighty grateful for the inspiration you provide to just keep on keeping on and looking forward. So, THANK YOU, for sharing.
This past week I've been slammed with course work as I try to get it done by the end of _this_ week. Decided to go this route so I can give my writing and reading next week my all and everything. SO--this week will be all about getting my assignments in and getting those exams writ. Not quite the #wipmadness I was going for when I stepped into October, but I think this change in plan is going to work. Feeling in the zone. 'Course, there will be the odd break in the schooling and you can bet I will do me a bit of writing.
How about all of you? Sticking with the plan? Changing the plan, even scrapping it for another? Looking forward to hearing how you are all doing. And hope to all of our #wipmadness peeps heading to Surrey and the SIWC this week...have a blast and learn lots!
Now, as NANO doth approach I shall leave you with this short 'n' sweet TED TALK. Has me thinking about other 30 day possibles to try out once NANO has come and gone. They could be writing, reading...anything. Enjoy the week and go, go GO with #wipmadness!

Good luck with your exams, Deb! And with NaNoWri. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks, Stina!
DeleteI'll be climbing the walls this week b/c I just sent out my first batch of queries. Scary, but also a relief to finally stop nitpicking all the little last-minute details of my WIP. Now it's onto a new WIP! Or a new approach, I've rewritten this one several times and it's time for another go!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your coursework, Deb!
Oh, best of luck to you! It's really important to make yourself move onto that stage when you feel it's ready. COURAGE!
DeleteGood luck, Jennifer! Way to go on getting those queries out there AND moving on to the next WIP...before you know you will be deep into that.
DeleteThanks on the coursework...speaking of which best get to it, but saw your comment on sending your queries out so had to say good luck. Erm, now I turn my email off, lol.
Fingers crossed for you, Jennifer!
DeleteCongrats for being brave and for moving on to a new project. It's the best thing you can do! Best wishes for swift and positive responses. ^_^
DeleteYay! All crossables crossed for you!
DeleteYay, Jennifer! Good luck with the queries! :)
DeleteI just went to the most amaaaazing workshop this past weekend (Plot & Structure with Cheryl Klein) and although I think just doing the preparations for the class allowed me to clean up an issue in the first pages of my ms, but I'm going to stay in revision mode for a few more days to make use of some of the wealth of information she shared with us. Guys, if you ever have the chance to take one of her classes, doooo iiiiit.
ReplyDeleteBut anyway, yeah, I totally got derailed this month by stepping back into revision, but I don't really mind. I'll definitely be back to drafting my WIP by next week, so it's all good.
Good luck with your coursework and exams, Deb!
Oh my gosh, you lucky thing! I read her blog, her articles, listen to the podcast she does. So, so amazing. Glad to know that in person she meets the expectation of amazing!
DeleteYep on getting back to it next week. Moving forward, always moving forward!
ReplyDelete
So glad you got to attend that, Kip!
DeleteOh, that must've been so great! :D
DeleteOoooh, sounds like a great workshop!

ReplyDeleteGood luck on your goals!
ReplyDeleteI'm probably going to just hit my revision big time during Nano or maybe I'll write the sequel to GODDESSES. **Need to nudge editor on that one. Or sign up for the writing a short story class offered by my local RWA. It would be fun to write a short story to tie in with the release of GODDESSES.
This week need to finish a last chapter that editor decided to keep but needs to flesh out more. Also hope to write some more on this sequel to CROSSED OUT. I'm now at 54K!
Plus read. I've been downloading free samples of some of the Cybils nominated books on my Nook. Ended up buying a couple too. There's some awesome books out there.
Also do some more homework in the self-editing on-line class.
54k is no laughing matter. Way to go!
DeleteYes...way to go, Kim!! You are knocking it out of the park, I must say!
DeleteI agree on the cybil noms. I've ended up buying a few and then some, too. Happy Reading!
It's good to hear about Jennifer's querying (that's a huge step!), and Kip's workshop (lucky gal!). They have tangible things to show for their week. Me? I managed to get the synopsis finished so I guess that's something tangible, but the revision is frustrating me. I wanted it finished before this weekend, but it's still feeling fragile and uncertain... definitely not finished.
ReplyDeleteOn a positive note, however, I finished my Roaring 20s outfit for the Surrey Conference! (Not that it's an impressive costume, but it's the best I could come up with. It involves a lot of black feathers!)
This week will be fragmented... visiting family, getting packed for and then attending four days of the writing conference. I doubt there will be many original words produced but somehow I don't think I'm going to care. ;)
Synopsis writing is tough. That's a big accomplishment!
DeleteCongrats on getting the synopsis done! Yay! And I'll bet the revision will come together after a weekend of inspiration. (Three more sleeps!) :D
DeleteEnjoy the week getting ready for Surrey! And way to go on that synopsis. That is a feat itself. The revisions are probably bubbling away and when you sit down it will be smooth sailing...and if there are few big old waves along the way we're here to help you get through!
DeleteI've been plugging away at my non-fiction project. Got a few new ideas for my upcoming nano project. Waiting to hear on 2 books that are on submission. Mostly not panicking about it. Life still feels busy enough that it should only be September.
ReplyDeleteAnd you just had a book release!
DeleteLots of irons in the fire...exciting! :D Good luck with the books on sub!!
DeleteOh my gosh, I hear you on Sept. The time is flying. Looking forward to hearing more about your next nf book! Good luck on your work out on submission.
DeleteI'm putting some last minute polishes before I send my bundle of YA manuscripts to an agent who unexpectedly requested them. One more novel to beta read this week. Still not feeling settled, but loving my new home. Hoping my body and brain adjusts to the altitude soon!
ReplyDeleteCarry on, Wipsters!
That's exciting Angelina! Hope that works out!
DeleteCool! Good luck with the agent!
Deleteooh, exciting! Fingers crossed that this leads to wonderful things!
DeleteWHOA! Good luck...very exciting. Here is to your bod making those adjustments.
DeleteGood luck with that altitude! It sure is an adjustment. And best of luck with the request... Fingers crossed!
DeleteDeb, I admire your NANO goals. I know there's no way I can work at that rate right now.
ReplyDeleteI pitched 38k and started from scratch on the same manuscript. I'm now at a whopping 3k but I do think the drafting will go quicker this go round. I know my characters pretty well.
If only my dogs will quit barking during the night so I can sleep. Sigh.
Pitching that big of a chunk takes courage, so yay you! Sometimes that really is the right thing to do, though, isn't it?
DeleteHere's hoping your dogs settle down....
Darn the dogs...hope they have quieted some for you. And way to go on starting over. I agree on this draft going faster. And if ya hit bumps, you know where to come and commiserate! Best of luck!
DeleteLast week rocked! I FINISHED the basic rework of the WIP! Now, I've started through the final revision. As I launch into this week, with my retreat in mind, I am plodding through the smaller details and taking an ax to the info dump/wordy portions of my beloved babe.
ReplyDeleteLove to hear all the good news and goals coming out here in week #3!
Now if the day job will just settle down...thank goodness it's homecoming week. Nobody wants to work during homecoming! (granting permission to students to slack off...)
Wheee!! Congrats, Mary Ann! And good luck with the final revision. :)
DeleteYum. Exams. I do not envy you. ;) Much luck on those and your writing!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the research and worldbuilding phase now, so no wordcount goals this week. I do want to work on some side characters, though! (Antsy to get my China books from the library...)
Ooo, good luck with that research. Love getting books from the library!
DeleteThanks of the exams!
Feeling kind of fragmented this week.
ReplyDelete--Expecting copyedits for Soul of Kandrith today.
--Finished minor edits on Otherselves--then promptly realized mss is too long--like 8000 words too long--so now cutting.
--Signed up for Nanowrimo in a fit of optimism, so ALSO trying to plot out book 2 of Otherselves.
Whoa...that is a full writing plate, but I am thinking you can do it! Hope you are powering forward inspite of the fragmented feeling!
DeleteLove your encouraging words, Deb! Aloha!
ReplyDeleteHey hey! Thanks for stopping by, Margo. Aloha back!
DeleteHow is it Monday again already, lol. Thanks for the encouraging words, Deb. Good luck with your exams and assignments! Makes sense to focus on that now, so you can give all your energy to wipmadness later.
ReplyDeleteAs for me, the day job ate up much time this past week, but I still made at least a little headway. Gotta grab those little chunks of writing time when I can get them! The next couple days will be family stuff (my son turns 14 tomorrow!) and getting things in order at home before heading to the Surrey conference on Thursday. SO excited about the conference! :D
lol on Monday, Shari. And now it is....Tuesday?!? I swear the time really is flying. We need something to help us keep up. Thanks on the exams and assigns.
DeleteYou. are. so. right about grabbing those chunks of time when you can. I keep forgetting to do that and make the most those. I know they work!
Happy B day to your boy and have the a ROARIN' (heh heh) good time!!
You guys have all been up to so many great things. I have missed you, and my goal is to be a better wipmadness member now that I've moved to Florida. The creative gene hasn't been flowing for awhile, but I'm hopeful for the future.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the move, LisaAnn. That's a lot to get settled. You and Angelina have had an extra distractions from the madness! good luck!
DeleteGlad the move part is over for you and you are now in the settle in stage. That creativity will start to flow force for you soon, I'm sure. In the meantime I'm a firm believer in it flowing in the background....gathering and filling that writer's well of yours. Glad you stopped by and happy settling in!
