March #wipmadness Check-In Day 16

I swear, there is nothing like a community of writers offering support to each other. We really do spend much of our time alone in front of the computer, with the notebook, researching etc. and etc. I am loving March for this reason. We "get" each other, which is awesome. That's why I loved this video. It was so funny and on point! Plus, it's darn good to have a laugh or ten every now and then! Many of you may have already seen, but just in case you have not here it is.

So, with all that said, here is too some laughter and writerly companionship this weekend. Oh-my fave part of this vid ('cause I know you want to know, lol) is the desperate writer trying to get an internet connection. Yep. That would be me!

Enjoy your weekend all. I am officially on the road to B.C. to visit my daughter and family. Tomorrow's check-in is over on Jaye Robin Brown's Hanging on to Wonder.

By the way, there is still time to sign up, oh yes there is! Head over to Denise Jaden's blog, check out the prizes and giveaways, then join us to finish up the latter half of March!

EDIT TO ADD:  Didn't make it to B.C. Hit an ice patch and landed in the ditch after a few truck rolls. Tiny bit shook up, bruising, sore hand, but man oh man I will take that. That was one heck of a scary moment (or two). Just at hotel, got mug of coffee, wrapping head around what I walked out of and my poor truck is totalled. BUT and anyhow. Shall be hanging with you all and once I've processed this all---you can bet...fodder for the writing well. All best everyone!

Edit edited to add-and my precious new macbook air has a couple of dints like me, but still up and running. Can you believe it was the first thing I looked for after I realized I was pretty okay? Yup.

  1. Got the words in, 1k this a.m. Couldn't watch the video = blocked at school. Maybe this evening.

Great day y'all! It's the weekend!

  2. I love that! I'll happily raise my glass to laughter and writerly companionship.

Tonight (Friday in Australia) I wrote the last scene of this revision. I still have a few small things to fix, and spell-check to run, but for all intents and purposes this revision is DONE. I'm feeling happy and sad at the same time, because that's how my story ends. I loved the journey but I'm very ready to let go (for now).

So soon I'll be participating in another great aspect of being part of a writing community - critiques!

Thanks for your support so far, Wipsters. It means so, so much!

  3. YES, almost the weekend, my time to sit and write frantically! Love that, it's what I look forward to during the week.

Yesterday I pulled out a WIP that's been sitting for several years...going off to my amazing beta reader. I was skimming it and had one of those moments, "Wow, I wrote this??? It's not as crappy as I remember it being!"

Also realized I need a major rewrite of another WIP that I just did a major rewrite on the other month. Blah. I've decided to throw it in a drawer for a few months and focus on other writing projects. Maybe this summer I'll be struck with genius...lol

    Have a great Friday, everyone!

  4. First...OMG! Thank heavens you are okay, Deb! Second, my mac is the first thing I would grab (given I was alone in the car). Sending cyber hugs, chocolate and a big bottle of vino to take the edge off...

Now for the madness. I did it. I did it! I DID IT! Yes, I finally finished that chapter and now I just have the denouement to write. And then...the revisions. Thanks to all you fabulous wipsters for the twitter cheer and constant motivation.

Friday, it's a good day to end it all. I mean the book, of course!

    1. WooHOOO, man!! Way. to. go! Grinning from ear to ear for you.

Must say I am glad to be okay. And yep on grabbing for the mac, it has a wee dent in its shiny self, but ah well! I'm a liking the vino suggest-happen to have a bottle of red at home...will raise a glass when I get home in best wishes to you and the wipster gang! Cheers!

  5. "my precious new macbook air has a couple of dints like me, but still up and running. Can you believe it was the first thing I looked for after I realized I was pretty okay?"

Spoken like a true writer... That's probably what I would have done, too. Glad to hear you're doing okay though.

I didn't write AT ALL on my wip yesterday, but I did plot the next scene this morning. I'll get there. :)

    1. LOL Linda. I know, eh? "Where's my computer, where's my computer, where's my notes, it's my journal still in here?"

Way to go on plotting that next scene. _Yes_ you will get there!

  7. Good morning and I'm so glad to hear you're okay! What a startling way to start the day out there...maybe it's best us writers stay safe inside the cave and don't venture out! :) Equally glad to hear your macbook air is good too - and now sports a nifty tattoo - right on!! :)

Flung 2k on new WIP this morning. Now to get back to edits.

Hope your day is a little less rocky and yes...you deserve a glass of wine after all that!

  8. So scary, Deb! Relieved to know you're okay. Sending you cyber ((((hugs)))). Ice is only for hockey players, eh?

I think I revised seven pages yesterday. Starting this morning I am crazy busy until Sunday night, but I'll sneak in a little #wipmadness whenever possible.

    Have a great weekend, Wipsters!

  9. ZOMG!!! So glad you're OK! It's crazy how life will throw us those times that crystallize the priorities. Glad you wales away and it was only your computer with battle scars :)

I revised 4 pages this morning and will make more progress after parent teacher conferences for my sophomore.

    Happy Friday :)

  10. Glad to know you are ok.
I signed up to read at least 2 books this month and some revision.
I've gone through 2 books this week so I've decided to double my goal for reading.
Sadly I haven't had time to revise, but will try harder before the end of the month.

  11. Oh, Deb, I'm so glad you're okay! So sorry about your truck, and your MAC, but glad that's still working too.

If nothing else, you've motivated me. My day no longer seems nearly as stressful (in comparison!) and now I'm going to sit down and get some work done. So...thank you for your pain, I guess. :(

    ReplyDelete
  12. Wow, how scary! So glad you're OK, even though your truck isn't. I hear you on checking for the laptop. I'm kind of constantly checking my backpack to make sure mine is with me at all times.

I took my Thinking Day yesterday and churned out a detailed outline last night/this morning to see if it will really work to turn that novella into a novel.

Next on the docket is to catch up on my book-reading, and then I'll be diving into my novel revisions. I'm kind of hoping the new novel idea works so I'll have that to work on when I start subbing the other novel to agents. Eep!

  13. Yikes! Oh my gosh, Deb, how scary. So glad to hear you're okay. (You know you're a writer when your first thought after rolling your truck is, "is my laptop okay?" lol.) Rest well and give yourself time to de-stress.

I should have a decent amount of time for #wipmadness revisions today, especially later this evening -- tonight's my stay-up-really-late-in-prep-for-tomorrow's-nightshift night. I do have a sick kid at home again, though....

  14. Jumped on the band wagon yesterday and the first day was a success! Wrote 1500 words. Ha ha

And holy moly, Deb, thank goodness you are okay. I can so relate with the making sure my laptop was okay, too. :) Nothing like a renewed appreciation for life. Take care.

  15. So scary, glad you're okay. And yay, I do love this fabulous writing community!!!

I'm trying to catch up on blog commenting today, and my writing has been kicking booty! Hoping to get tons more done today! :D

  16. Wow. Sorry about your accident. Happy you're okay.

I've written 3,005 words today. That's 9,000 over the last three days. I may write some more tonight. I don't know what's wrong with me either.

  17. Oh, dear, hope you're okay!

I hadn't seen that video before, but that was hilarious. So true.

I didn't make too much progress yesterday. I felt like tackling the Third Pass was too much to consider on my lunch hour, and then later I didn't quite feel well enough to go to sword class. Wound up not doing much, unfortunately. And when I tried to move to my next goal, researching agents, I realized that because of the feedback I'd received, I was horribly unprepared and I want to wait until Third Pass is finished before finally sending it out.

Hopefully I'll be able to return to sword class as of next week, since I have a lot of classes to make up. Also, this weekend I'm getting hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which helps with some of my particular health issues.

This weekend won't be lost for my March Madness goals, though! I'll be heading to the Island for the HBOT. Which includes Monday, so I'll be writing most of my post tonight, saving the draft, and the posting it with my Blackberry. (Yes, I've figured out how to do this. Just don't want to type the entire thing with my fingers.) It'll definitely be interesting. Anyway, when I'm in the chamber I'll have plenty of reading time to finally tackle The Hunger Games, and time to make writing notes, and I'll also have my laptop to begin working on the Third Pass (when *not* in the chamber). It's so quiet and peaceful there, that with no Internet besides my phone, I'll have time.

  18. Hey, I'm just starting out with this March Madness business, but then I saw your edit about your crash! Hope you're okay... Also, looking for your computer as the first thing? Totally normal. I freaked out about my computer when I tripped over and fell flat on my face running for a bus once. My sister did the same thing after getting hit by a truck while her laptop was in the passenger seat. We worry about our computers, new or old!

  19. Well, no work done on the WIP, but I forgive myself. Had a rejection come in and needed to get it sent back out somewhere. It's worth a shot. Also, our new Kindle showed up and I was working to get it all set up. Still about a grand short of weekly goal, but maybe I can find some time this weekend. I may be doing some planning and soul-searching though, and we have things we're doing on Saturday and Sunday too.

Glad to hear you're okay after that. Dad rolled his truck a couple years ago.

And I got a kick out of that vid too, especially the vodka bit. Must be the writer drink of choice. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Firstly, holy crap, I am sooooo glad you're okay. That is terrifying.

Secondly, that video is freaking hilarious. Mainly the vodka part. When I started my Memoir, I was in Michigan and at the store with my mom. I put vodka in the cart, and my mom was like "Do you really need that?" I just responded with, "Yes. Very necessary."

Thirdly, YAY, I FINISHED MY MEMOIR!!! ONE GOAL FOR MM DONE!

  22. Oh my goodness! So glad you're okay!

I'm doing great, excited about the weekend, feeling like I'm definitely going to make my goal (query-ready by April 1) and probably even a smidge early. Woo-hoo!

    Back to work!

  23. Oh, Deb!! I'm sooooooo glad you're okay!! What a completely scary thing to go through. Yay for your Mac!

No writing today. Plan on hitting a few pages now, though.

Looks like everyone had a great day today. :)) Omg, that video is hilarious!! Thanks for sharing. :)

Switched gears today and worked on my Crime Thriller Series. The idea that I first thought up 12 years ago turned into book two of what was, at the time, a planned three book series. Now that I've had a chance to read over what I'd written that long ago, I realize that the flashback should be a prequel in itself. So, now the series is up to four books--so far. My aim is to make them each stand alone stories that feature one major player in the ensemble cast I've created.

Crime thrillers are my first love, so I'm surprised at how little I plan on changing in terms of writing style. It's quite different from the evolution in writing I saw with my MG WIP in terms of POV and voice. It's an interesting study for those who plan on writing in more than one genre.

Hope everyone else's day has been productive, as well.

    Cheers,

    Tonette

Holy cow! I'm glad you're okay. That is one scary story. Not great about the truck, but you walked away. You walked away from a totaled truck. How fortunate are you? Someone was looking out for you. Weather here was dodgy, I crossed the second narrows in 2nd gear in a raging hailstorm, but luckily, no ice. Take care. Drink tea. Bundle up and phone the ones you love. Thanks for sharing that - sometimes we need reminders that life is so precious.

A near brush with death makes my work seem extremely piddly - spent the day writing an editor's report and still hours to go. I've discovered headphones and Jango. The world outside my office door simply disappears.

  26. Oh my goodness, Deb! So thankful you (and your laptop -- yay for sturdy Macs!) weren't seriously hurt. What an awful experience! I was away visiting my daughter on Vancouver Island this past week, experiencing a wild storm with hurricane-force winds from the safety of indoors. Having trees topple everywhere and waves wash logs from the beach up and over the highway was a little scary, but that was *nothing* compared to what you went through! Pamper yourself this weekend... you deserve lots of TLC.

I'm checking in late (well, that's very relative since it's 1:30 a.m.) but wanted to report on a few new words today and an idea for my magazine article. Neither seems like a significant one day achievement but I see good things on the horizon as a result. Happy weekend #wipmadnessing!

  27. I'm sorry about the accident. I'm glad you are okay. I'm sorry about the truck, but as long as you're doing fine that's all that counts. And it's great that the Mac's still working.

    That video is hilarious.

    1. Hey Medeia--thanks on the truck and yep I am totally with you on it. All that matters is walking away from it!

BTW...I am (finally) reading your book! _Love_ it...and in no small part to the fact that the teen me (and teens today) totally, totally relates to her even though our backgrounds are so different. Nice going on creating a universal character who couldn't be anyone else...er, if that makes sense. I am going to blame this ramble on the tylenol (and lack of coffee).

Boy howdy ya on that stretch of road in the winter...I had no idea on those underpass ice patches.
